When to Use This Guide

Start using this guide at the beginning of the semester, long before it seems time to get started on your paper. While this guide is helpful, once you get started, you will likely want to talk to a librarian as well.

These steps can help keep you on track and make the process of writing an in-depth academic research paper more manageable. However, it isn't a strictly linear process. Like the design process, you may circle back to previous steps or work on several steps at once.

The weeks listed for each step give you an idea of when during the semester you should begin working on that step, but that doesn't mean you have to finish that step during that same week.

If you're behind schedule, keep calm and email a librarian!
